Sam Mbaluka

Samuel Mbaluka is a multi-instrumentalist and dynamic force in the East African music scene, with a deep passion for bass guitar. Beginning his journey in church, he developed a sound rooted in the fusion of jazz and traditional African music, drawing inspiration from his father and legends like Jaco Pastorius, Joe Zawinul, and Richard Bona.

His artistry was further shaped during his time in Zanzibar, where he studied upright bass in Taarab and jazz at the Dhow Countries Music Academy. Mbaluka has since performed at major festivals across East and Southern Africa and collaborated across genres including jazz, reggae, Afrobeat, and neo-soul.

Beyond performance, he is dedicated to community development through the Watoto Arts and Music Center and the Mtaani Jazz Festival, while currently preparing to release his solo jazz album infused with East African influences.
