Kaa La Moto
The Swahili word “Kaa” means an “ember” and has been used in contemporary
art, to refer to protagonist of and for dreams and ambitions of urban youth. The
word was coined by “Kaa la Mashaka”, the fabled hip-hop and conscious music in
Kenya, to “Kalapina” an artist who aspired to champion others’ ambition in music
and politics in the neighbouring Tanzania, Kaa la Jeremiah among others.
Kaa la Moto draws on the history of this word, and laces his music with delightful
Swahili poetry, humor, playfulness and addictive notes.
